Please call for a consultation. 415 546 6548

You can do brief work for a few sessions, perhaps using EMDR to promote change rapidly, or persue longer-term change with somatic approaches, or deeply moving verbal sessions.

Our interactions in sessions will range, from quieter moments to very interavtive processing.   I don’t sit back and simply say “a-hum”. You can process change using Gestalt, Reichian breath work, psychodynamic intersubjective styles, hypsnosis, or art therapy.

It is  invaluable to figure out how to recognize and manage your most difficult inner experiences---those times when you are immobilized by depression, overcome with grief, and frozen with fear and anxiety.  These, the darkest of feeling, require courage and effort to reintegrate in a novel way, to break up habitual patterns of responding to the outsideworld, and to reorganizing how you manage your feeling olife  on the inside.

Another aspect of your journey will involve learning how to take pleasure in your life, how to develop and use humor as a way to cope with life's dramas, and to create an "up" experience in your day-to-day living.

I offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families, as well as ocassional groups.  I am profoundly interested in working with both men and women.  I have shared the journey of healing with many women who have been sexually and physically abused and know these journey's well.  For men I can help you define your style as a man in the 21st century, in love, work, and recovery from abusive life experiences.

Over the years, I have worked successfully with depression; anxiety and panic disorder; recovery from trauma and abuse, including dissociative disorders; eating disorders; personality disorders; men’s issues; relationship and couple conflicts of all kinds; family issues, especially marriage, divorce, remarriage and stepfamily problems; stress management; work and career difficulties; grief, loss, dying; TMD disorder.

While my therapy practice has a strong somatic component, I draw upon a number of psychotherapeutic modalities.  These approaches  include:

Neo-Reichian training Gestalt practice
Somatic trauma work Bioenergetics therapy
Psychodynamic/object relations theory Family systems theory
Intersubjectivity Hypnosis
Expressive Arts Art/Play therapy
Brief psychotherapy EMDR

My Other Practice

I am also a licensed dentist, having practiced for over 30 years in San Francisco, and offer emotionally comforting dental care of many types, including dental implants.  I have also taught at UCSF dental school in Oral Biology.  My two practices overlap in the realms of dental anxiety, stress reduction, and TMJ disorder.  TMJ or TMD is a complex symptomology of pain in the jaw joint, with multiple aspects, some physical and many emotional.
